Healthcare reform causes - Free Essay Example

The healthcare system is in need of desperate change. The current healthcare system is based off of finances and if the person can pay for the healthcare that they have to give them. Thousands and thousands of people end up in debt everyday. A strong relationship between the doctor and the patient is required. Healthcare reform needs to happen because it is unaffordable, unreasonable, and lacks affordability. A big part of the healthcare responsibility falls upon the person who is receiving medical attention. The doctor cannot make sure that the patient is taking their medicine when they are supposed to take it, and the doctor cannot make you ask questions when it comes to what they are telling you or what your diagnosis is. This creates a communication barrier between the patient and the doctor. As David Cutler says in Thinking outside the pillbox-Medication Adherence as a priority for Health Care Reform. a way to motivate the person to take the medicine that is prescribed to them, is to give them some type of reward, this reward could be money or a discount on their next trip to the doctors office. He also says that another way to get people to take their medicine is pharmacies and hospitals can start charging people for the medicine they do not take because that medicine could be going to someone who would most definitely take that medicine. In 2010 Barack Obama passed the Affordable Care Act. This act made it so hospitals cannot take away healthcare options just because the person cannot afford other options One negative aspect of healthcare reform is that it will make the amount of money made in the healthcare industry go down. This would happen because people would be charged less for the healthcare that they need so less money would be made from healthcare. This is bad because if someone is heavily invested in healthcare you expect to make a lot of money off of healthcare, and if someone sees that they are missing a lot of money from their investment they will start to worry about where that money is. But on the other hand the patient will benefit from healthcare reform because there will be more attention paid to keeping the customer happy and not taking every single penny in their wallet. As Ezekiel J. Emanuel says in healthcare reform and cost control. the amount of money made from healthcare is expected to decrea se by about $100 billion between 2010 and 2020 and it is expected to go down over $1 trillion between the years of 2020 and 2030. This is a lot of money that will be lost but it can be easily made up in other industries such as farming or recreational activities. This is easily justified because it is the healthcare industry, and everybody needs healthcare so you will be getting money from everybody just less money as a whole. Some pharmacies are already working on bringing the cost down for things everybody needs, such as giving people free flu shots during certain months. Some people have taken matters into their own hands in order to try to start the healthcare reform trend by building low stress health centers like hospice centers. Hospice centers are very quiet and helpful and Hospice centers are for people who have six months or less to live and need around the clock care to make sure they stay alive when they are supposed to be alive and die when they are supposed to die. Whenever people are put into hospice they are asked to sign a Do Not Resuscitate form. This form means that whenever the person dies the hospice workers are not supposed to try to bring them back to life. Another thing that makes hospice special compared to other bigger hospitals is that they do not stay on the persons back about making payments to keep the person in hospice, and they will not throw the sick person out of hospice just because the person paying hospice missed a couple payments. Hospice also will work with the person and is very flexible when it comes to payment p lans. Patients at hospice receive the same type of medical care as what they would get if the went to a state hospital. Just that depending on which type of hospital you go to there may be less healthcare options for the patient. Another reason people go to Community Health Centers like hospice or immediate care is so they can get quick care if something is wrong with them and it is urgent. As Michael D. Fine said in Health Care reform and primary care. when someone goes to a Community Health Center the will not be asked to pay the normal large amount you would have to pay at a larger state hospital. A popular recommendation for healthcare reform is the use of telemedicine. Telemedicine is when a health care center uses video cameras or video chats to check up on the patient and if they need help they could go help that person. According to Rashid L. Bashur in national telemedicine initiatives. telemedicine would make more people want to become nurses because they would know that they would be able to see several patients at the same time and not use so much time going to each room and checking on each patient one by one. Also some patients feel like a burden on a nurse who is taking care of them, but with the use of telemedicine the patient would not feel like a burden because they would only take about 10 minutes out of the caretakers day. Both sides of healthcare are very important when it comes to making sure the patient gets the right amount of care they need. There are many flaws that can be fixed, but there are several smaller flaws that cannot be fixed and will have to be looked over. Most people will benefit from healthcare reform because most people are not invested in healthcare so they will not lose money. Some companies are coming up with new ways to change health care for the better. One day there will be a company that comes along and will truly kick start the healthcare revolution and when they do the world will never look back to the way health care used to be.
